Shreehas Tambe is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Biocon Biologics, leading the organisation’s mission to make affordable, lifesaving medicines accessible to patients globally. In his three decades with Biocon, Shreehas has contributed to building businesses across regions and disciplines, enriching his global perspective on healthcare delivery and reinforcing his resolve to drive meaningful, science-led access for patients.
Shreehas assumed charge as CEO & MD of Biocon Biologics in 2022. Under his leadership, the company has strengthened its global position, emerging among the world’s Top 5 biosimilars companies by revenue, expanding its commercial footprint to 120+ countries, and surpassing $1 billion in annual revenues (2024). He led the transformational global acquisition of Viatris’ biosimilars business and oversaw its consolidation in record time, enabling Biocon Biologics to become a fully integrated, lab-to-patient biosimilars enterprise.
Before taking on his current role, Shreehas served as Chief Operating Officer and later as Deputy CEO of Biocon Biologics, overseeing enterprise-wide operations and global growth agenda. In an earlier mandate at Biocon, he led the worldwide expansion of the insulins business, directing end-to-end development, manufacturing, and market entry strategies, and executing major strategic investments such as Asia’s largest integrated insulins facility in Malaysia for Biocon.
A technologist at heart, Shreehas holds 61 patents, including Biocon’s U.S. patent for the ‘PlaFractor’ bioreactor, reflecting his commitment to advancing bioprocess innovation through practical, scalable solutions that improve healthcare outcomes.
He has also represented India’s biopharmaceutical sector at leading global forums such as the Global Generics CEO Summit, the Festival of Biologics, and the U.S.-India Bioeconomy Workshop. Under his leadership, Biocon has worked closely with Indian policymakers on forward-looking frameworks like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) and the Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma MedTech (PRIP) schemes to prepare India for the future of life sciences.
Shreehas holds a Master’s degree in Bioprocess Technology from ICT (UDCT), University of Mumbai, and was conferred the Distinguished Alumnus Award (Professional) in 2020.
